Press and Related Use of Images
RALLY-PHOTO.COM is established to provide a source of high quality royalty-free rally images to competitors, the media, agents and other consumers of rally images. Now don't get us wrong - 'royalty-free' doesn't mean that you get to use our photos for free. It means that, if you licence the use of a photo, you don't need to pay for each individual impression. In other words, you don't pay royalties.
Rally photography can be an expensive, time-consuming and uncomfortable activity. Each event requires at least a day's planning, half a day each way travelling to and from the event, a couple of days to process the images ... and, on the day of the event, both of us are generally on the go from around 6am and don't get finished until around 9 in the evening. That makes about 8 man-days for each event. We also need to pay for, and maintain, two sets of equipment, each consisting of two costly cameras, a set of expensive lenses, sophisticated flash gun, standalone hard disk drives and so on - it would cost somewhere around £20,000 to replace our kit.
For these reasons, we simply cannot afford to provide images free of charge. Imagine your boss asking you to work over the weekend, but saying that you wouldn't be paid overtime. You probably wouldn't be too happy. Asking for our images for free is like asking us to work overtime for free. In fact it's asking us to pay to do the work - it costs us at least a couple of hundred pounds for fuel, accommodation and subsistence for each event. And often, much more.
That said, our fees are reasonable and very affordable. Contact us for more information
A limited range of images is available free of charge via the championships for which we are official photographers. Again, contact us for more information and for championship contacts. We also supply event organisers with images for club, event and related promotional uses free of charge.
Images are available as electronic files. We have a bespoke 'lightbox' application that allows accredited organisations to browse through images for an event, or to search for images for a particular event or competitor. It operates in much the same way as a conventional 'shopping cart' - you select your images, add them to your 'lightbox' and, when finished, submit your request. The images are sent to you by email or, for large numbers of images, we set up a private folder for you on our FTP (File Transfer) server. A single image will normally be available within minutes, multiple images within a few hours and almost all cases are processed within 24 hours.
We have a formal licence agreement that applies to all images supplied by us. There are two important points to note in particular:
If you don't want to print a credit, or don't want to send portfolio copies, a waiver of either requirement is available. Full details of these requirements, the cost of waivers, and the full conditions of supply and use of our images, can be found in our licence. Use of our images is deemed to be de facto acceptance of the licence conditions, so please make sure that you read and understand this document.
